Automation engineers bring together mechanics, electricity and electronics to advance modern technology. At UWO, the B.S. in Automation Engineering curriculum builds that same versatile skill set through applied learning in automation, robotics and control systems.
From your first year, you work in labs and project-based courses, learning to design, program and optimize modern automated systems. As you progress, you explore topics such as electrical circuits, machine components, mechatronics and thermodynamics, empowering you to better understand and improve automated processes. You’ll also advance your expertise through an in-depth study of motors and drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors and system integration.
Throughout the automation engineering program, you become well-equipped to:
- Design and program automated and electromechanical systems
- Apply control theory and data acquisition methods to industrial processes
- Use CAD and MATLAB for modeling, simulation and system analysis
