General Information for Transfer Student

We’re happy that you’re considering transferring to UW–Oshkosh! Please follow the steps below to complete your application to the University. If you have questions at any time, please contact us at admissions@uwosh.edu.

Note: this website provides step-by-step instructions to apply to the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. Admission to UW–Oshkosh does not guarantee admission to the student’s intended college, major or program. Please visit the website for your intended major or program to determine if there are any additional admission requirements or application procedures.

Step 1: Apply to UW-Oshkosh

Transfer students may apply online at https://apply.wisconsin.edu. A paper application may also be obtained from any high school guidance office in Wisconsin or by contacting the admissions office.

There is no deadline for transfer applications. We have rolling admission and will process applications as they are received.

Students are required to list all post-secondary schools they have attended. Failure to list all previously attended schools is considered academic dishonesty. Failure to disclose and submit transcripts from all colleges attended, even if no transferable credit was earned, may result in denial of admission or dismissal from the university.

Step 2: Send your College/University Transcripts

Submit an official transcript directly from all colleges or universities previously attended. An official high school transcript is also required if a student has earned fewer than 30 transferable college credits at the time they apply OR if the student has solely earned college credit from a technical college. Your application will not be complete until all transcripts are received.

Most students choose to submit their transcripts electronically (such as through Parchment).

Congratulations Titan, your journey starts here!

Every students at every liberal arts institutions participates in a general education curriculum. At UW-Oshkosh, we refer to our general education program as the “University Studies Program” or “USP.”

We know that as a transfer student, your experiences are a bit different. You’re coming in with credits, or maybe even a full degree, so here’s a quick breakdown of the USP requirements you need to complete based on the number of credits you’re bringing with you.

Please not that transfer students are still required to meet all major, minor (if any) and degree requirements. The chart below refers to USP expectations only.

Number of CreditsStudent Status
0-14
credits
You’re still considered a first-year student and will be able to participate in all USP Quest and Connect courses. Any courses you’ve taken previously will continue to transfer to UW–Oshkosh, but the names of courses or course categories may differ slightly.
15-59
credits
To help you get acclimated to campus, you are required to enroll in “USP 200,” which is our Transition Year Experience. This is a 0-credit course that is completed online in Canvas during your first semester at UW–Oshkosh. It will help you to learn more about campus resources, connect you with someone that can answer any questions, and give you weekly information about campus events. You are not required to complete any Quest courses or signature questions.
60+
credits & completed
associate degree
Because you have more than 60 credits, you are not required to take the Quest sequence of courses or the Transition Year Experience. Admissions will determine what courses transfer and identify any courses you may need to complete.

If you’ve already completed an approved associate degree from the state of Wisconsin, your USP requirements are automatically fulfilled. An Applied Associate degree, earned from a Wisconsin Technical College System school or a community college does not fulfill USP requirements. Completion of an out-of-state associate degree does not fulfill USP requirements.

UW–Oshkosh and the USP honor all current and emerging Universities of Wisconsin agreements related to inter-institutional transfer. Courses that have transferred to UWO previously will continue to transfer, though names of courses or course categories may differ.
